With Cleveland using a first-round pick on Brandon Weeden, the Browns are looking to move Colt McCoy. Packers coach Mike McCarthy was high on McCoy before the 2010 draft and Green Bay has ammunition to make a move, but the team reportedly has decided to pass.

The Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns are considering a deal for quarterback Colt McCoy, a source told Packer Report.

The Browns used a first-round pick on Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden on Thursday, making McCoy expendable. The Packers, who need a backup after losing Matt Flynn in free agency to Seattle, have a sixth-round pick and four seventh-round selections to use as bait.

"It's something we'll talk about tonight and tomorrow," Browns general manager Tom Heckert said on Thursday night, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy attended the pro days of Oklahoma's Sam Bradford and Texas' McCoy and came away impressed, saying McCoy answered "every" question.

"I liked this workout better. I thought Colt was challenged more in his workout as far as the types of throws," McCarthy said. "Sam was very accurate, but Sam's workout was very controlled. He didn't do as much movement."

McCoy (6-foot-2, 209 pounds) wound up being Cleveland’s third-round choice. With the Browns, he started eight games as a rookie and 13 games in 2011. In those 21 games, McCoy completed 58.4 percent of his passes for 4,309 yards, with 20 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. His passer rating is 74.5 and his record is 6-15.

His last action for Cleveland ended with a concussion on a helmet-to-helmet hit that resulted in James Harrison’s one-game suspension.

According to The Sports Xchange’s Len Pasquarelli, at least two franchises with some interest in McCoy are from the AFC North, the Browns' division, and officials from the two teams acknowledge that Cleveland likely won't do business with a division foe. It makes some sense that, despite the fact McCoy is 0-8 in starts against division rivals, the AFC North clubs would have some degree of interest.

Philadelphia makes some sense, not only because of need, but because Heckert used to work for the Eagles and retains strong ties to the Philly personnel department. Sources said that at least two other teams, one from each conference, have some interest.

Browns' officials emphasized to The Sports Xchange, as has been reported by some other media outlets, that McCoy has not requested a trade. In fact, McCoy has indicated to team officials his preference for remaining with the club and competing with Weeden for the starting job in training camp.

The 22nd overall choice on Thursday night, Weeden is 28 and will turn 29 in October. He is more than three years older than McCoy and, because of his advanced age, the perception is that the Browns will have to start him as a rookie. But first, though, the club has to decide what to do with McCoy.

At Texas, McCoy held the FBS all-time wins record with 45, a mark that was shattered by Boise State’s Kellen Moore (50-3 record). In 2008, he was the Big 12’s offensive player of the year and runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. In 2009, he led the Longhorns to an undefeated record and a berth in the BCS Championship Game against Alabama, but he was knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury. He swept the nation’s quarterback awards.

For his career, he passed for 112 touchdowns and rushed for 20 more while throwing for 13,253 yards.
