Packers Rise to Fifth in AP Poll

Green Bay moves up a notch, thanks to its fifth consecutive win and Chicago's humbling loss at San Francisco.

The Houston Texans received nine of 10 first-place votes to remain atop the AP Pro32 NFL rankings, which were released on Tuesday.

San Francisco moved up from No. 4 to No. 2 and received the other first-place vote after throttling Chicago, which fell from second to seventh. Atlanta, Denver and Green Bay round out the top five.

Here are comments on the Packers by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses). For the rest of the rankings, CLICK HERE.

Chris Berman (ESPN, 3) - Five-game winning streak and back in first place.

Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 5) - A five-game winning streak has made them the NFC North favorites.

Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 4) - Rodgers carrying this team right now with another MVP-type season.

Bob Glauber (Newsday, 4) - Nothing pretty except the final result, as the Packers outlast the Lions in Detroit to continue their domination over their NFC North rivals.

Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 7) - Aaron Rodgers has thrown for 17 TD passes against only two interceptions in the last five games, all Packer victories.

Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 5) - They're hot, they're back in first and they're beginning to look like a Super Bowl team waiting to happen.

Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 5) - Plenty of issues abound, but Aaron Rodgers is having another MVP season.

Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 7) - Aaron Rodgers can put points on the board, but the defense has lots of issues. Dom Capers does a masterful job to cover problems up, but how far can they go?

John Lynch (Fox Sports, 3) - They eked one out against division rival Lions and now need their stars, Clay Matthews and Greg Jennings, back to make their run.

Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 7) - Usually, it's Detroit that needs last-minute heroics to win. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers turned the tables by leading the late game-winning drive in last week's 24-20 road victory.

Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 3) - With any other quarterback, they would be just another team.
