Even though he looked "pretty good" at Friday's practice and a first-round playoff bye is at stake, Randall Cobb will not play against Minnesota.

MINNEAPOLIS – Following the pattern used all season with players coming back from injury, Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy made Randall Cobb one of his seven inactives for Sunday’s game at Minnesota.

Cobb, who injured his right ankle and knee against Tennessee last week, “looked pretty good” at practice on Friday, McCarthy said. Ultimately, however, he decided not to risk one of his top playmakers, even with a first-round bye at stake. Making the decision easier is the return of Jordy Nelson, who had missed the last three games with an injured hamstring.

Jeremy Ross will return punts for the Packers and could return kickoffs, though running back DuJuan Harris might be in the mix.

The Packers’ other inactives are defensive back Charles Woodson (collarbone), cornerback Davon House (shoulder/hip), running back James Starks (knee), receiver Donald Driver and defensive lineman Jordan Miller.

If Sunday’s game is the last regular-season game in Driver’s career or in a Packers uniform, it won’t be one to remember. Some of Driver’s best days came at the Metrodome, including six catches for 191 yards and a touchdown in 2006, eight catches for 114 yards in 2005 and 11 catches for 162 yards and a touchdown in 2004. The 191- and 162-yard days were the biggest of Driver’s career.

There are no big names on the Vikings’ list: quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, receiver Stephen Burton, cornerback Brandon Burton, safety Robert Blanton, linebacker Audie Cole, tackle Troy Kropog and defensive end D’Aundre Reed. With Percy Harvin on injured reserve, Stephen Burton had one of the three touchdown catches by a healty Minnesota receiver.
