Rice, Davis Headed to Super Bowl

Ray Rice and Anthony Davis were two of the best to ever put on a Rutgers uniform. And now both will represent the program in the 2013 Super Bowl after victories in their respective conference championship games.

Rutgers has had team captains and impact players in the Super Bowl before, but never anyone with the star power of running back Ray Rice. The Baltimore Ravens star running back carried his team to a victory over the New England Patriots in tonight's AFC Championship game and will be one of two Scarlet Knights to start in Super Bowl XLVII.

Rice gave the Ravens the lead with his 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and finished with 70 total yards on 22 touches in the 28-13 victory over the Patriots. Former Scarlet Knights Devin McCourty and Justin Francis combined for 10 tackles in a losing effort for New England.

Former defensive lineman Alex Silvestro will also represent the Baltimore Ravens. Silvestro, who suited up for the Patriots in last year's Super Bowl, is a member of the Ravens' practice squad.

Joining his AFC former classmates in the Super Bowl is San Francisco 49ers starting right tackle Anthony Davis. The earliest NFL draft pick in Rutgers history, Davis will start in the Super Bowl in his third year as a professional football player.

A Piscataway Township High School product, Davis helped pave the way for a 17-point comeback in the victory. San Francisco ran for 149 yards behind Davis and the offensive line.
