Peterson wouldn’t trade Harvin ‘for nothing’

Adrian Peterson said Percy Harvin is the best at what he does and he wouldn’t trade him, despite speculation that the Vikings will look into that option.
talks, you take his opinion a little higher than most players in the Vikings organization. In an interview with Vikings flagship KFAN Tuesday, Peterson weighed on the current questions surrounding the future of
with the Vikings.
Over the past several days, rumors have dialed up that Harvin will be on the trading block before April’s draft – a rare player scratching the surface of his immense talent being traded at the prime of his career. Peterson’s take? Don’t even think about it.
“To be honest with you,” Peterson said, “I don’t know if we will (trade him) or not. But, me, individually, and giving you my opinion, I wouldn’t trade him for nothing.”
In essence, it was the NFL’s Most Valuable Player supporting a teammate who was mentioned to be in contention for that award halfway through the season.
As a playmaker on the highest order, Peterson has a unique appreciation for players that can make the play that turns a game around. A player who can turn nothing into a game-tilting play are few and far between. Harvin is one of those players and Peterson acknowledged as much.
“To do the things that he’s able to do, I don’t think there will be a player able to do it better than him ever,” Peterson said.
Harvin ended the 2012 season with 62 catches for 677 yards and three touchdowns. Despite missing the final seven games, he still led the team in receptions and yards. Had he played all 16 games, those numbers would have extrapolated to 110 catches for 1,204 yards and five touchdowns.
He also averaged 35.9 yards on 16 kickoff returns.
It will be interesting to see how Peterson’s admiration of Harvin, who is just 24 years old and could have a decade of jaw-dropping plays in front of him, will factor into the franchise’s decision whether to keep him long-term or cut ties in the next couple of months.
Whatever the decision, it will go a long way to determining the offensive fortunes of the Vikings moving forward.
