Eddie Lacy's four-year contract is worth about $3.46 million, with a signing bonus of about $904,000.

Agents hate their inability to negotiate, but teams love the rookie slotting system.

The Green Bay Packers signed second-round pick Eddie Lacy on Wednesday, meaning 10 of their 11 draft picks are under contract by May 29. Under the old system, it wouldn’t be unusual for the Packers to have not signed any of their draft picks until the week before training camp. Instead, only first-round pick Datone Jones remains unsigned.

ESPN was the first to report the news. Terms were not available but the four-year deal is likely worth about $3,464,330 with a signing bonus of $904,000, based on the contracts of players signed around him.

Lacy, a powerful and productive running back from Alabama, was selected with the 61st overall selection. He’s been third on the depth chart at this early stage of the offseason, behind veterans Alex Green and James Starks.

Lacy is no stranger to competing for playing time, with Alabama churning out three consecutive upper-echelon running backs. Mark Ingram went 28th overall to New Orleans in 2011 and Trent Richardson went third overall to Cleveland in 2012.

After rushing for 674 yards behind Richardson in 2011, Lacy rumbled for 1,322 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2012 before leaving school a year early. He took 31 of his 204 carries for at least a dozen yards. His career average of 6.77 yards per carry led all active players. He closed his career with 181 yards against Georgia in the SEC title game and 140 yards against Notre Dame in the BCS championship.

Projected as a possible first-round pick, Lacy fell to late in the second because of injury concerns, specifically fusion surgery of the big toe on his right foot. As Lacy and those around the Alabama program were quick to point out, he had his monster 2012 after the toe surgery.
