Nonetheless, Lions coach Jim Schwartz hears the phrase "slim" chance and thinks there's a possibility that Aaron Rodgers will play in Thursday's showdown. Matt Flynn worked with the starters at Tuesday's practice.

On Monday, Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy said the chances of Aaron Rodgers playing against Detroit were “slim to none.”

Rodgers practiced on Tuesday but McCarthy actually lessened Rodgers’ chances of playing in a must-win Thanksgiving game against the Lions.

“Closer to ‘none,’” McCarthy said. “It’s something to write about. I’m trying to help you out – the drama BS that you guys need. So, there it is.”

That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good day for Rodgers, getting his first onfield work since sustaining a broken collarbone against Chicago on Nov. 4 – 22 days ago.

“Aaron Rodgers went through the individual drills and was a limited participant as far as our jog-through practice,” McCarthy said. “It does not look like Aaron is going to make it. He had a good day. This was a big day actually for him as far as doing throwing and doing some of the things the targets that the training staff wanted to hit with him, they definitely hit it. So, he feels good but I don’t think he’s going to make it this week.”

While it doesn’t sound like Rodgers is going to play, Lions coach Jim Schwartz certainly isn’t going to rule it out while developing his game plan.

“We’ve played Aaron Rodgers enough times that we have an idea of what he can do,” Schwartz said during his conference call. “He’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. We certainly have a lot of respect for him. The kind of competitor that he is, if there’s any kind of slim chance – I know Coach McCarthy labeled it ‘slim and none,’ but ‘slim’ still sounds like something. If there’s any way that he can be out there, we know the competitor that he is, so we’ll be ready for him.”

As are all decisions involving injured players, this one won’t be made by Rodgers or McCarthy, and the importance of this game won't take precedence over the possibility of a more severe injury should Rodgers not be fully healed.

“It’s a conversation that’s been had,” McCarthy said. “You know, hey, I clearly understand Aaron’s role and responsibility here but this is a medical decision. He’s not quite ready but he did have good day today. He feels very good about what he accomplished today.”

McCarthy said Matt Flynn took the “starter” reps during Tuesday’s practice.

“That’s where we are,” McCarthy said. “Business as usual. Next man up. Getting ready to go.”
