The Green Bay Packers ensured they will have at least one fullback on the roster by signing Ina Liaina. The team announced the deal, for a reported two years, on Tuesday.
Liaina (6-0, 250) went undrafted out of San Jose State last year. He spent part of the offseason with the Dolphins but didn’t make it to training camp and spent the year out of football.
Liaina, who had a predraft visit with the Packers, played in 43 games with 13 starts at San Jose State. He carried 54 times for 150 yards (2.8-yard average) and a touchdown, plus caught 14 passes for 134 yards (9.6 average) and two touchdowns. Most of those numbers came during his senior season, when he rushed 33 times for 98 yards (3.0 average) and caught 10 passes for 110 yards (11.0 average) and both scores.
The only other fullback on the roster is John Kuhn, who is heading toward free agency.
