Baylor University Bears
Klein Collins High School
Goodson was part of the school's largest contingent of players to attend the NFL Scouting Combine in 2014, as six Bears attended the event. The former Gonzaga University basketball player put on an impressive showing during the agility tests, easing some concerns team had in regards to his minimal football experience and annual injury issues since he returned to the gridiron from the hardwood court.
The cornerback, brother of Mike Goodson, a former Texas A&M tailback who is with the New York Jets after stops with Carolina and Oakland, had returned to the game of football three years ago after spending the 2008-11 seasons as a member of the Gonzaga basketball team, where he had started 68-of-69 games. The last time he had suited up to play football before coming to Baylor was during his sophomore season in high school.
Goodson finished his hoops career with 529 points and 206 assists, including averages of 5.2 points and 2.6 points to help the Zags capture their 11th consecutive West Coast Conference championship. Of note, he was the starting point guard in Gonzaga's 68-64 upset win over then-ninth ranked Baylor in December 2010.
It was not until the 2013 season that Goodson would emerge on the gridiron. Injuries in the previous two seasons had sidetracked his quest for playing time. His 2011 season was cut short when an ankle injury vs. Iowa State in the Bears fifth game would force him to the sidelines the rest of the year. The reserve cornerback had posted only one solo tackle, but gained 100 yards on three kickoff returns through four appearances.
Goodson would start three of the team's first four games at boundary cornerback in 2012, producing 16 tackles (15 solos) with two stops behind the line of scrimmage. He also intercepted one pass and deflected two others. However, in the Bears' fourth game, vs. West Virginia, he fractured his arm in two places, missing the rest of the schedule.
Goodson injured his arm again, missing the first two games of the 2013 campaign, but returned to start 10 of the next 11 contests, earning All-Big Twelve Conference honorable mention. Shifting to field cornerback, he delivered just 26 tackles (22 solos), but intercepted three passes and deflected 13 others. Prior to playing in the Fiesta Bowl, Goodson graduated in December 2013 with a degree in general studies.
