Packers Going Light for Training Camp

Packers Going Light for Training Camp

There will be 16 practices open to fans, along with off-days two days before each preseason game.

The Green Bay Packers will start training camp with a series of 8:20 a.m. practices, the team announced on Friday.

Camp starts at 8:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 26. The team also will practice at 8:20 a.m. on Sunday the 27th and Monday the 28th, with an off day on Tuesday the 29th, followed by 8:20 a.m. practices on Wednesday the 30th, Thursday the 31st and Friday, Aug. 1. The Family Night practice will start at 6:25 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 2.

The schedule is lighter than ever on the players. From the first day of training camp to the day before the preseason opener, it's a span of 33 days. There are just 16 full practices on the docket that are open to fans.

Here's what's really intriguing: Two days before each preseason game, the Packers have scheduled a day off. That would be akin to taking a Friday off before a regular-season game, hinting at major changes to the game-week practice structure.
