Ahman Green became the Packers’ all-time single-season rushing leader Sunday
on a nine-yard burst three and a half minutes into Green Bay’s game vs. San
Diego at Qualcomm Stadium.
Green’s run gave him1,480 yards for the season, six more than Jim Taylor’s
record set in 1962. Green didn’t sit on that number for long. He followed it up
with a burst through the right side of the line for a four-yard touchdown with
10:59 remaining in the first quartert. That capped the Packers’ 8-play, 60-yard
scoring march. Green provided 21 yards on four carries on the drive, with
receiver Donald Driver coming up with two big third down catches for 39 yards to
keep it going and give Green the early opportunity.
The remarkable moment in Packer history was not televised by Fox, at least
not in some of its markets. The network stayed with the Seahawks-Rams game to
its conclusion, then aired post-game interviews and commercials. Fox joined the
game in progress for Ryan Longwell’s extra point after Green’s record run and
touchdown were already in the books.
