Source: Favre Likely to Play

Posted Dec 22, 2003

PackerReport.com sources indicate that Favre is leaning toward playing this evening

According to several sources, quarterback Brett Favre will play tonight against the Oakland Raiders. The Packers have not yet released an official statement about the status of Favre, whose father died Sunday in a car crash after suffering a heart attack or stroke.

Favre received news of his father’s death at the team hotel Sunday evening, and later his family encouraged him to remain with his team Sunday night and to play in tonight’s Monday Night Football game in Oakland, according to broadcast reports Monday morning..

The game would be the 205th consecutive start of Favre’s career, an NFL record for quarterbacks. If Favre is unable to play, backup Doug Pederson will get the nod.

Services for Irvin Favre, 58, will be held Tuesday in Kiln, Miss. Irv Favre was at the foundation of Brett’s football career, coaching his son at Hancock North High School and serving as catalyst for his college recruitment after most scouts overlooked the young QB.
