Cornerback Derek Combs returned four kickoffs for 110 yards, including a big return which helped his Amsterdam Admirals (4-5) to a 23-18 win over the Cologne Centurions (3-6) Sunday.
Combs’ 40-yard kick return in the fourth quarter help set up a go-ahead 41-yard field goal with 5:18 left to play. Combs added three tackles and broke up two passes in the victory.
Amsterdam teammate tight end Tony Donald contributed three catches for 38 yards.
For Cologne, cornerback Erwin Swiney led the defense with six tackles and three passes defensed. Defensive end Cullen Jenkins broke up two passes and had two tackles.
World Bowl qualifier Frankfurt Galaxy (7-2) edged the Rhein Fire 20-14, but not before the Fire forced the Galaxy into overtime, thanks in part to two Packers.
Green Bay running back Walter Williams is trying to make up for lost time after coming back from a broken hand. Williams led the Fire in rushing with 72 yards on 20 carries. Wide receiver Shockmain Davis had five catches for 38 yards and returned two kickoffs for 90 yards.
Next week wraps up the regular season. The Centurions travel to meet the Scottish Claymores Saturday. The 8 a.m. (Central) game will be aired live on the NFL Network, and will be rebroadcast at 7 p.m. Sunday’s slate includes Frankfurt at Berlin in a World Bowl preview, shown on Fox in a tape delay at noon (Central).
