The Favre file

Posted Oct 17, 2004

Brett Favre, owner of nearly every possible QB record the franchise has to offer, has now played more games in a Green Bay Packer uniform than any player in team history.

As Favre took the field for his first snap Sunday vs. the Lions at Ford Field, he marked his 197th game as a Packer. That surpassed the record held by the legendary Bart Starr. The former QB and coach played 196 games for Green Bay, finishing his career in 1971 when he played only the final four games of the season after shoulder surgery.

Favre's ironman streak QB-start streak continued as well and now stands at 195.

The records which come from taking the first snap weren't enough for Favre in Sunday's convincing win. His first touchdown pass of the day, a seven-yard strike to Donald Driver midway through the first quarter, gave Favre 31 consecutive games with a touchdown pass. Favre broke a tie with Dan Marino to move into second place on the league's all-time list. Johnny Unitas holds the top spot with 47 consecutive games with a touchdown toss. Favre could tie Unitas in the sixth game of the 2005 season.

Favre's 257 yards gave him 47,116 and the No. 4 spot on the NFL's all-time passing yardage list. He surpassed Fran Tarkenton (47,003) and now trails only Warren Moon (49,325), John Elway (51,475) and Dan Marino (61,361).

Sunday marked Favre's 100th career road game. While domed stadiums haven't been Favre's favorite part of that tour, Sunday's win helped bridge the gap. He is now 13-22 in domes, 1-1 this season and 2-1 on the road overall in 2004.

Magic number: Brett Favre's passer rating in the win over the Lions was 102.6 - his best of the season so far. That pushes the Packers' record to an amazing 63-6 when Favre crafts at least a 100.0 rating. Green Bay is 28-6 when Favre reaches the century mark on the road and a perfect 35-0 at hme.

Favre's last seven games with a QB rating of 100.0 or better have come on the road. Favre's rating at Carolina was 101.1. In 2003 Favre had six 100.0 or better ratings, including their critical win in the Metrodome.
