Green helps feed the hungry

Packers running back Ahman Green may be in pain from the rib injury suffered Sunday night at Houston, but that’s nothing compared to the pain the hungry feel during the holiday season.

On Tuesday, Green helped distribute 800 boxes of food and personal-care items to Brown County families.

“Every family needs to have an opportunity to have a good holiday season, starting off with Thanksgiving, and no family should go without regardless of what class they’re in or what race,” Green said.

Green’s work was a corroborative effort that included the international hunger-relief organization Feed the Children and the sports-agents group Athletes First.

Athletes First is helping distribute 75 tons of food and personal-care items in several NFL cities.

Like in many areas across the nation due to a sluggish economic recovery, the number of hungry in Brown County has increased while the amount of food donations has decreased.

Beyond just having a full stomach, though, Green said food is something that brings families together.

“It just brings their family closer together to be able to cook dinner, have fun, open presents, eat a great meal together, stuff like that,” he said. “It just adds to the giving and the spirit of the holiday season,” he said.
