The Green Bay Packers signed former University of Kansas track star Leo Bookman last week, according to a published report.
Bookman hasn't played football since the 2002 season. He quit football and concentrated on his track career. He was a three-time national champion in the 200-meter dash (2003 Indoor and Outdoor, 2004 Indoor). He also is KU's record holder in the indoor 200 meter (20.53), and a four-time All American.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Bookman is believed to have run the 40-yard dash in 4.25 seconds during a workout for the Packers on April 3 in Houston, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
“He’s fast,” Packers general manager Ted Thompson told the Press-Gazette. “I watched his workout, and I know he’s really fast. Fast is not his problem.”
Bookman also played defense back and was a kickoff returner, in addition to his role as a receiver with the Jayhawks.
