Quarterback Paul Thompson, who led the Oklahoma Sooners to the Big 12 championship last fall, signed a free agent contract with the Green Bay Packers on Wednesday, PackerReport.com has learned.
Thompson is expected to join Ingle Martin and Jerry Babb as the only healthy quarterbacks taking part in the team's mandatory minicamp drills, beginning Friday in Green Bay. Veterans Brett Favre (ankle) and Aaron Rodgers (ankle) will be limited in drills, or may not practice at all.
Thompson started all 14 games for the Sooners last year. He threw for 2,590 yards and 21 touchdowns, completing 58.5 percent of his passes, and 11 interceptions.
In 2005, Thompson started the first game at quarterback, then moved to receiver. He remained the backup at quarterback to Rhett Bomar, finishing the season by completing 11 of 26 passes for 109 yards.
