Wide receiver can receive an additional $11 million to existing contract

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver, 32, has signed a contract extension, according to a report today in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The extension adds almost $11 million to his existing contract, according to a source the Journal Sentinel reached with access to the NFL Players Association salary data.

According to the data, much of the money – $7.2 million – is contained in the extra year added to the deal, which might not be earned because Driver will be 35 going into the season.

But the extension boosts his salary through roster workout bonuses by about $3.8 million over the next three seasons and brings his average per-year salary to about $5.75 million. It is the second time in two years that Driver’s contract has been updated despite having multiple years left on the deal.

Here is a link to the Journal Sentinel story.
