Thompson's departure clears room for Robinson on active roster

The Green Bay Packers placed offensive lineman Orrin Thompson on waivers on Thursday, PackerReport.com has learned. The move likely was made to clear room on the 53-man roster for wide receiver Koren Robinson.

The National Football League reinstated Robinson on Wednesday from his year-long suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He is eligible to report to the team's facilities Friday and begin practicing with the team when it reconvenes from the bye week on Monday.

Thompson participated in training camp with the Packers, but missed a few weeks later in camp with a sprained knee. He was released in the final cutdown in early September and signed to the eight-man practice squad. He was activated to the 53-man roster in Week 3, but did not play against the Chargers. He was not on the team's 45-man game day roster in each of the last three games.
