The North Report

Posted Oct 28, 2002

Parity has reached every corner of the NFL except one: the NFC North Division.

With the rest of their division in action, the Packers emerged from their bye week with a four-game lead in the North. Another key game saw the NFC's only other 6-1 team fall, leaving Green Bay with the best record in the NFC and tied with San Diego for the NFL's top mark.

The Vikings managed their second win of the season with a 25-7 shellacking of the hapless Bears at the Metrodome. It wasn't actually that close, as a safety gave the Vikes a 25-0 second half lead. The Bears' TD came on Chris Chandler's 27-yard pass to Marty Booker on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Former Packer Henry Burris mopped up at QB on the last two possessions after Chandler was hit hard on a sack. Burris was 1-of-6 for 28 yards, an interception and a sack.

The game marked the first time Minnesota had held an opponent to 7 points in more than 2 years. Their D was ranked next-to-last in the NFL coming into the game, but they managed to hold Anthony "A-Train" Thomas to 18 yards on nine carries.

The Vikings win over the Bears put both those teams at 2-5, tied with Detroit for last place or second place, depending on how you look at it.

Detroit fell to the Bills 24-17 in Orchard Park, N.Y. Unlike the Bears, at least the Lions look like they have some life, as they put themselves in a position to win but fell short. After surrendering 17 straight points to the Bills, the Lions came up with a fumble recovery, but were stopped on fourth-and-inches at the brink of the Lions' red zone.

Former Packer Bill Schroeder had 46 yards on two catches.

The Falcons handed the New Orleans Saints their second loss, 37-35. Jay Feeley kicked a 47-yard field goal as time expired to win it for Atlanta. Michael Vick rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns in beating his cousin, former Packer Aaron Brooks.
