Morency signs tender offer

Vernand Morency

Packers running back was a restricted free agent this offseason

Green Bay Packers running back Vernand Morency signed the team's tender offer to him on Friday, according to a source with access to the NFL's player transaction wire. Morency was a restricted free agent.

The Packers in February tendered Morency, who is entering his fourth NFL season, at $927,000. It is not believed that Morency received any offers from othe NFL teams. If he would have signed an offer sheet with another team, the Packers would have had a chance to match the offer or receive a third-round selection in this year's NFL draft from the other team as compensation.

Morency was relegated to a situational role last season after missing the entire preseason with a knee injury. He played mainly as a third-down back, catching a career-high 30 passes for 199 yards in 13 regular season games. He rushed 29 times for 108 yards.

Morency is expected to compete for a backup spot behind starter Ryan Grant this offseason. Recommended Stories
