Family night set for Aug. 3

For first time, scrimmage will be held on a Sunday night, and the festivities will conclude with the "Shirt Off Our Backs" raffle and fireworks.

The Green Bay Packers on Monday announced their annual Family Night Scrimmage will be held on Sunday, Aug. 3.

Tickets for the popular intrasquad scrimmage, entering its eighth year, go on sale starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14. The tickets, which cost $8, will be available via Ticketmaster. Parking is $5, with proceeds going to the Wendy’s Wonderful Kid foster-care adoption program.

"It's another one of the great training camp traditions of the Green Bay Packers,” Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy said in a statement from the team. “Even with the change (to a Sunday night), it promises to be another memorable night for our fans, and I'm looking forward to seeing it for the first time. I've already heard a lot of great things about the event, both from our staff and our fans.”

Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m., with on-field drills at 6:30 and the scrimmage at about 7:30. Afterward, game-worn jerseys will be given away with a random drawing, and the night will conclude with fireworks.

The event has drawn more than 60,000 fans for each of the last four seasons. Because of its popularity, ticket sales will be limited initially to eight per person.

The scrimmage will be played on a Sunday because of a new training camp schedule stemming from the Packers opening the preseason on a Monday night. The Monday opener means training camp also is opening on a Monday, July 28.
