Packers coach Mike McCarthy is a father again.
McCarthy’s wife, Jessica, gave birth to a healthy girl, Gabrielle Kathleen, on Wednesday morning, the team announced.
McCarthy hinted the birth would take place during the bye week to avoid the possibility Jessica could go into labor during a game.
“It’s been 17 years since I have been through this, but I don’t remember doing a whole lot,” McCarthy joked on Monday. “I’ll carry the bag and make sure there is gas in the car, things like that. I can handle that.”
McCarthy has a daughter, Alex, through a previous marriage.
Rouse wins NFC honor
Safety Aaron Rouse, who returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown against Indianapolis on Sunday, was named the NFC defensive player of the week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Rouse had seven tackles, two passes defensed and the long interception returned, which tied the Packers’ record held by Tim Lewis against the Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 18, 1984.
Charles Woodson won the award in Week 2. Rouse is the first Packers safety to win it since LeRoy Butler following Week 3 in 1996.
Meanwhile, fellow safety Nick Collins is one of five nominees for the GMC NFL defensive player of the week. Voting is being conducted on NFL.com/gmc through 3 p.m. (Central) on Thursday. The others are the Giants’ MIchael Johnson, the Bills’ Kawika Mitchell, the Ravens’ Terrell Suggs and the Steelers’ LaMarr Woodley.
Paup honored, too
Former Packers linebacker Bryce Paup, the head coach at Green Bay Southwest High School, was named the Packers’ High School Coach of the Week. The Trojans, 4-1 following an 0-3 start, knocked off state powerhouse Ashwaubenon 6-0 last week.
