Favre Bowl II Moved to 3:15 p.m.

Posted Oct 13, 2009

Officially, the change is meant to help Philadelphia deal with it potentially hosting Game 4 of the World Series. In reality, moving Packers-Vikings to the marquee afternoon time slot will help boost ratings.

On the heels of Favre Bowl I getting record ratings on ESPN, Fox and the NFL have flip-flopped kickoff times for the Nov. 1 game at Lambeau Field and the Giants-Eagles game in Philadelphia.

Instead of a noon kickoff, Fox has moved Favre Bowl II to the marquee 3:15 p.m. slot, the league announced on Tuesday. The Eagles and Giants will now play at noon.

For what it's worth, here is the official explanation from the league: "To accommodate fans and city and stadium personnel in Philadelphia, the Nov. 1 Giants-Eagles kickoff has been moved up three hours. The Philadelphia Phillies are in the National League Championship Series. If they win that series, the Phillies will host Game 4 of the World Series at 8 p.m. (7 p.m. Central) on Nov. 1."

Fox only has one other game in the afternoon slot, Carolina at Arizona, so moving the Packers-Vikings game will allow it to show the game to practically the entire nation.
