The Green Bay Packers have agreed to terms with the fourth of their draft picks, tight end Andrew Quarless, a source told Packer Report on Saturday.
Plus, safety Morgan Burnett, who the Packers bolted up the draft board to grab early in the third round, is "not that far away" from getting his deal done, according to his agent.
According to the source, Quarless received minimum salaries of $320,000 in 2010, $405,000 in 2011, $490,000 in 2012 and $575,000 in 2013. With a signing bonus of $182,425, Quarless’ total deal is worth $1,972,425.
Quarless was the first of the Packers’ fifth-round picks, going at No. 154 overall. Quarless, Penn State’s career and single-season leader in receptions, will battle veterans Donald Lee and Spencer Havner and first-year player Tom Crabtree for two backup spots behind starter Jermichael Finley.
With training camp three weeks away, only three draft picks remain unsigned: first-rounder Bryan Bulaga, second-rounder Mike Neal and Burnett. The legwork has been laid for Burnett, who was the seventh player taken in the third round, at No. 71 overall. The players taken at Nos. 65, 66, 67, 69 and 70 have signed. Three safeties selected around Burnett have signed: No. 67 Myron Lewis by Tampa Bay and No. 75 Major Wright by Chicago and No. 76 Chad Jones by the Giants.
"Russ Ball has been the consummate professional in regards to negotiations. We're not that far away from striking a deal and making Morgan a Packer," agent Kevin Conner told Packer Report.
Only one second-round pick has been signed, with the Jets inking Vladimir Ducasse earlier in the week. He was pick No. 61 overall; Neal was No. 56. Nobody has signed in the first round.
The Packers signed fifth-rounder Marshall Newhouse ($149,850 bonus), sixth-rounder James Starks ($100,300 bonus) and seventh-rounder C.J. Wilson ($50,350 bonus) last month.
