Former Vikings defensive end Erasmus James, a first-round draft pick in the poor 2005 Vikings draft, was arrested Thursday after punching an acquaintance in a bar.
Former Viking Erasmus James was arrested Thursday after a bar fight in which punched a friend in the face at a bar in Madison, Wis.
James, 27, a former first-round pick and subsequent bust with the Vikings, was at a bar near the University of
Wisconsin
campus after closing time when he tried to order a drink. At that point, he got into a dispute with a friend and punched him in the face. James apparently didn’t have a run-in with any bar employees.
A first-round pick in 2005, James was never able to stay healthy in his three seasons with the Vikings and became an NFL rarity in 2008 when he was cut by the Vikings on a Friday, had his release pulled back and subsequently was traded to the
Washington Redskins
the following Monday. He played five games with Washington before being cut late last season.
James was booked and released from Dane County Jail. It is unclear whether the county attorney will seek a battery charge against him. James is currently under indefinite suspension by the league, which is believed to be tied to an alleged violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.
FRIDAY NOTES
The Vikings are 7-1 on the season, but have done so by already having five road games in the books. When they return from their bye week next week, they will start a three-game home stand that will include Detroit, Seattle and Chicago – three teams that should allow the Vikings to get to 10 wins as quickly as their 11th game.
Jared Allen
is likely extremely happy he got out of Kansas City when he did. Not only did the Chiefs find themselves forced to part with Allen and perennial Pro Bowl tight end
Tony Gonzalez
, but after making gay slurs about head coach Josh McDaniel, running back
Larry Johnson
is serving an in-house suspension. How bad is it in K.C.? Chiefs fans (however many there still are) have started an on-line petition asking general manager
Scott Pioli
to extend the suspension through the rest of the season. Where’s the love?
