2003: Walker finally started to flash his first-round promise by exploding onto the scene in the final games of the season. Tall and athletic with big-time jumping ability, Walker caught everything thrown in his vicinity. ... Caught 41 passes for 716 yards (17.5 yards per catch) and a team-high nine touchdowns. ... Average ranked second in the NFL and TDs tied him for fourth in the NFC. ... Finished season with a bang, catching 23 passes for 511 yards (24.1) and five touchdowns over the final six regular-season games and the two playoff games. ... Scored touchdowns for three consecutive game spanning November and December. After streak was broken, Walker exploded for a pair of touchdowns against Oakland. Had arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle and right shoulder during the off-season. 2002 first-round pick is under contract through 2007.
Played in 15 regular season games, starting twice, and Green Bay's playoff game against Atlanta in 2002. ... Caught 23 passes for 319 yards (13.9 yard avg.). Caught 5 passes for 104 yards in playoff game. Averaged 22.0 yards on 35 kickoff returns. ... Selected by Packers in first round of 2002 NFL draft (20th overall). First receiver taken by the Packers in the first round since Sterling Sharpe (South Carolina) in 1988. To get Walker and Seattle's fifth-round choice (156th overall), the Packers gave up their first and second-rounders (28th, 60th respectively) to Seahawks.
College
Played several wide receiver positions as a senior at Florida State. Junior college transfer who proved to be a very capable deep threat in 2001. Caught 65 passes for 1257 yards (19.3 avg.) and ten touchdowns in two seasons at Florida State. |
