Biography:
Michael Lewis (5-8, 165, 4.25) went to a New Orleans Saints tryout camp three years ago when Jim Haslett became the New Orleans head football coach. He ran a 4.25 in the forty which was an amazing time. The Saints decided to keep him, but he did not have very many football skills. The Saints placed him on the developmental squad and that is where he stayed for his first season. When Lewis showed up for his initial tryout, he drove up in a beer truck, because that was what he was doing: driving a beer truck.

Lewis played his high school football in New Orleans, but he never went to college and he really did not have any football skills. He could still run a 4.25 in the forty, so the Saints decided to keep him on the developmental squad. A year later, the Saints decided to keep him on the main roster and try to work with him on his receiving skills and catching the football on punts and kickoffs. Up until this time, he just could not catch the football, but his speed was so fantastic, the Saints never gave up on him.

Lewis was on the main squad in 2001 until an injury forced the Saints to have to cut him to make room for a player that they needed to take the place of an injured player. The Saints never gave up on him and he was signed again and put on the main roster again at the start of the 2002 football season.
