Future Contract Status
Career Stats: College Statistics
Injury history: Was sidelined for a month in 2006 after injuring his knee in practice.
2007: Showed some progress in his first season as the full-time starter, but injuries hampered his improvements early. Missed four games with head, finger and groin injuries, but finished the season with an 8-4 record as a starter, with two of those losses coming in overtime games. Completed 218 of 375 passes (58.1 percent) for 2,386 yards, 11 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Had a 69.0 passer rating and added 65 rushes for 301 yards and four touchdowns. During a five-game winning streak, completed 79 of 112 passes for 916 yards.
2006: Expected to be more of a long-term project, Jackson got into four games and made two starts – vs. the Packers Dec. 21 and the Rams Dec. 31. Finished the year completing 47 of 81 passes for 475 yards and a team-long pass of 50 yards, with two touchdowns, four interceptions and a passer rating of 62.5. Became just the third rookie QB to start for the Vikings, joining Fran Tarkenton in 1961 and Tommy Kramer in 1977. Among a strong rookie class of quarterbacks, his 58.0 percent completion rate was second only to Jay Cutler. By season’s end, it became clear Brad Johnson would not be back and Jackson would enter the 2007 season as the frontrunner to win the starting quarterback job.
College: Transferred from Arkansas to Alabama State and started three years at quarterback for the Hornets. During that span at ASU, he completed 537 of 985 passes for 7,839 yards and 67 touchdowns with just 27 interceptions. He also added 259 rushes for 982 yards and 11 TDs. Saved his best for his senior season when he was named the All-Southwestern Athletic Conference, completing 195 of 320 passes for 2,941 yards with 29 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Also ran 103 times for 285 yards and three TDs.
Personal: Lives in his hometown of Montgomery, Ala. Was a two-time all-state selection and was named All-Metro for the Montgomery area as a senior. At Arkansas State, he played under quarterback coach Reggie Barlow, who was a teammate of the Vikings’ Brad Johnson when both won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
