Background: More than 20 years ago, Bill Renner was the Packers’ punter. Now, one of his protégés is getting the chance. Green Bay signed Jeremy Kapinos on Dec. 3, 2008, to replace Derrick Frost. Kapinos played for Renner at West Springfield High School in northern Virginia near Washington, D.C. Kapinos was a Ray Guy finalist as the best punter in college football during his senior season at Penn State. He kicked in one game for the New York Jets as an undrafted rookie in 2007. He failed to make the Jets’ roster in 2008 had been out of football until getting an invite to audition to replace Frost.
