2009 outlook: Brooks beat out Derrick Frost last year in Washington as a sixth-round pick. However, the winner of the Ray Guy Award during his senior season at Georgia Tech ranked 35th in net punting (32.1), allowed two touchdowns and was released after just six games. His problems were a tired leg from overkicking and an injured hip flexor. In 26 punts, Brooks had nine inside-the-20s and no touchbacks.
Background: Durant Brooks was signed to the practice squad late in the 2008 season. Brooks was drafted in the sixth round by the Washington Redskins in 2008 and beat out Derrick Frost — allowing Frost to join the Packers. But Brooks struggled, in part with a groin injury, and had two punts allowed for touchdowns. He was released at midseason. He won the Ray Guy Award at Georgia Tech. Just 19 of his 65 punts were returned. |
