Packers Add Another Inside Linebacker

The Green Bay Packers filled a roster vacation by signing one of the impressive inside linebackers that attended their rookie camp on a tryout basis last month.

Green Bay signed Shaun Lewis, a four-year starter at Oklahoma State who finished his career with 45 consecutive starts.

Lewis brings impressive credentials, dating to his prep career, when he was's fourth-ranked outside linebacker at Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas.

As a true freshman, he was named a Freshman All-American and shared the Big 12's Freshman Defensive Player of the Year award after posting three forced fumbles, three interceptions and eight tackles for losses while starting only six games.

He rounded out his career with three consecutive all-Big 12 selections. As a sophomore, he had 61 tackles, including 1.5 sacks and 9.5 for losses, plus two interceptions and a forced fumble. As a junior, he had 58 tackles, including 2.5 sacks and 7.5 for losses, with one forced fumble. As a senior, he had 73 tackles, including a half-sack and eight for losses, picked off three passes and forced two fumbles.

Lewis also was an all-Big 12 academic selection as a junior and senior.

Lewis, however, was a casualty of his measurables. He's just 5-foot-11 and 226 pounds, and ran his 40-yard dash in 4.90 seconds at pro day. He was not invited to the Scouting Combine.

"Really, when you get overlooked, you kind of sit back and take notes about what the other guys had that you don't have, Lewis told NewsOK before pro day. "I really looked at that a lot (when watching the Scouting Combine). Watching that helped fuel some of my workouts."

The Packers didn't draft an inside linebacker but have added Lewis, Jake Doughty and Joe Thomas as undrafted free agents. Recommended Stories
